Esta pesqueira apresenta uma extensão considerável e foi construída pelo homem, utilizando blocos de rocha da zona e aproveitando as condições naturais já existentes.
Tal como para as outras pesqueiras, a sua construção pretendeu aproveitar as correntes de retorno originadas por obstáculos naturais de natureza morfológica que ocorrem no leito rio e impedem as correntes do seu escoamento normal.
As pesqueiras do rio Tejo na Ortiga são exemplares raros de uma arquitetura paisagística única resultante da secular relação com o rio nesta aldeia piscatória do concelho de Mação, resultante de engenhosas técnicas de construção com o xisto que bordeja as margens do Tejo nesta zona. Sendo um património secular, o seu estudo, das estruturas e de todo o património imaterial associado, deve continuar de forma rigorosa, contribuindo assim para a sua salvaguarda e conservação, mas também valorização e musealização a céu aberto.

As for other fisheries, its construction was intended to take advantage of the return currents originated by natural obstacles of a morphological nature that occur in the riverbed and prevent currents from their normal flow.
The Tagus River fisheries in Ortiga are rare examples of a unique landscape architecture resulting from the centuries-old relationship with the river in this fishing village in the municipality of Mação, resulting from ingenious construction techniques with the schist that borders the banks of the Tagus in this area. Being a secular heritage, its study, of the structures and of all the associated intangible heritage, must continue in a rigorous manner, thus contributing to its safeguard and conservation, but also valorisation and musealisation in the open.
