I have wanted to place a SideTracked cache here for years & finally got round to it - This being my first in the series I hope it links properly
Coppull had a train station & I for one would have loved for it to return but sadly that decision was considered & completely ruled out.
This probably lead to the decision to also close the pedestrian subway - shame for us locals!
Not a lot of history to go with this -
First opened 31st October 1838
Closed & reopened the same day on 2nd September 1895
Closed for the final time 6th October 1969
The only point of note is the dispute about the station move in 1895 - 4 chains (80 m) away. Sources differ on the direction of the move. Engineer's Line Reference (ELR) data suggests a move southwards,[whilst Butt states the move was 135 metres to the west!
