AUVILLAR
[FR] D'abord connue comme cité gallo-romaine, Auvillar était un oppidum fixé sur un éperon rocheux.
Elle fut victime de nombreuses invasions, particulièrement celle des Normands, jusqu'au XIe siècle.
Au XIIe siècle, la ville devient chef-lieu d'une vicomté puis propriété des comtes d'Armagnac aux XIVe et XVe siècles avant de devenir, au XVIe siècle, fief des rois de Navarre.
Auvillar est rattachée à la couronne de France à l'avènement d'Henri IV en 1589.
Sa situation de place forte soumet la cité à tous les conflits qui ravagent la région, depuis la croisade contre les Albigeois, la guerre de Cent Ans, les guerres de religion puis la Ligue.

[EN] First known as a Gallo-Roman city, Auvillar was an oppidum set on a rocky outcrop.
It was the victim of numerous invasions, particularly that of the Normans, until the eleventh century.
In the 12th century, the town became the capital of a viscount, then the property of the Counts of Armagnac in the 14th and 15th centuries, before becoming, in the 16th century, a stronghold of the kings of Navarre.
Auvillar was attached to the crown of France on the accession of Henri IV in 1589.
Its situation of stronghold submits the city to all the conflicts which ravage the region, since the crusade against the Albigenses, the Hundred Years War, the wars of religion then the League.
