Historie
Aaby er afledt af navnet Oby, det nævnes i et brev fra kong Valdemar Sejrs tid i år 1219. Navnet Aabybro stammer fra brostedet over Ryå, nemlig Aaby bro, som i 1500-tallet hørte ind under Aalborghus.
I 1896 blev der nyopført en stationsbygning, og i den forbindelse indførtes navnet Aabybro i et ord efter stationens betegnelse.
Aabybro blev et knudepunkt for Aalborg-Fjerritslev banen, og jernbanen mod Hjørring fik endestation i Aabybro.
Der var indtil 1800-tallet pramfart på Ryå fra Limfjorden ved Gjøl til Aabybro.
Aabybro er i gamle dage blevet benævnt som passagen over Ryå.
I vil på denne tur rundt i Aabybro besøge nogle af de historiske steder, der er tilbage, ligesom I vil komme tæt på to broer over Ryå.
Nutid:
Aabybro er knudepunktet for kommunen mod øst, vest, syd og nord. Aabybro blev ved den nye kommunalreform i 2007 hovedsæde for den nuværende kommune – Jammerbugt Kommune.
Aabybro er pt. inde i en rivende udvikling, gamle ejendomme bliver revet ned for at give plads til nye ejendomme. De nye bygninger i midtbyen bliver bygget i højden for at give mere plads til forretninger og beboelse, da der mangler kvadratmeter i jordniveau.
Byen bliver udvidet med parcelhuse mod øst, da der er mange tilflyttere, der ser den korte afstand til Aalborg Lufthavn og motorvejen som en stor fordel. Aabybro er rig på børnefamilier, der er derfor bygget 2 nye folkeskoler, hvor indskolingen og mellemste trin er på den ene skole, mens ældste afdeling og 10. klasse er på den anden skole. Der er flere spor på hver klassetrin.

History
Aaby is derived from the name Oby, it is mentioned in a letter from King Valdemar Sejr's time in the year 1219. The name Aabybro comes from the bridge site over Ryå, namely Aaby bridge, which in the 16th century belonged to Aalborghus.
In 1896, a station building was newly built, and in this connection the name Aabybro was introduced in a word after the station's name.
Aabybro became a hub for the Aalborg-Fjerritslev line, and the railway towards Hjørring was terminated in Aabybro.
Until the 19th century, there was barge traffic on Ryå from the Limfjord by Gjøl to Aabybro.
Aabybro has in the old days been referred to as the passage over Ryå.
On this trip around Aabybro you will visit some of the historical sites that are left, just as you will get close to two bridges over Ryå.
Present tense:
Aabybro is the hub of the municipality to the east, west, south and north. With the new municipal reform in 2007, Aabybro became the headquarters of the current municipality - Jammerbugt Municipality.
Aabybro is currently in a rapid development, old properties are being demolished to make way for new properties. The new buildings in the city center will be built in height to provide more space for shops and housing, as there is a lack of square meters in ground level.
The city is being expanded with detached houses to the east, as there are many newcomers, who find the short distance to Aalborg Airport and the motorway as a great advantage. Aabybro is rich in families with children, so two new primary schools have been built, where the schooling and middle school are together on one of the schools, while the oldest department and 10th grade are on the other school. There are several tracks at each grade level.
