La série "Floranges hors piste"

Je vous propose une série de 25 caches formant un cercle, plus une cache bonus. Ce projet est né pendant le confinement "COVID 19" en Mars 2020, alors qu'on avait le droit de se promener à 1 km de son domicile. J'ai la chance d'habiter en bordure de la forêt de Floranges, mais toujours les mêmes sentiers après le télétravail, ça devenait lassant. Alors il a fallu trouver d'autres raisons d'aller en forêt, et pourquoi pas découvrir des endroits "inexplorés". Au départ l'idée était de dessiner un cercle parfait de 1km de rayon et de cacher les caches à espacements réguliers, quel que soit l'endroit. J'ai fini par éliminer les marécages vraiment dangereux et les propriétés privées. (D'où les trous dans le cercle). Quant à la notion de "hors piste" au final j'ai souvent cédé à la facilité de placer les caches en bordure de sentier mais pas toujours .

Conseils pour trouver les 25 caches de la série

La circonférence du cercle étant de 2*pi km = 6.28 km, il est illusoire de penser qu'on peut en faire le tour en une journée. (Edit: en fait si ! Les premiers trouveurs ont fait ça en 6h, en coupant tout droit entre chaque cache). Car bien évidemment il faut souvent repasser par les sentiers entre 2 caches. Mais le VTT est un bon moyen pour les plus pressés, à laisser au bord du chemin pour s'enfoncer dans la forêt pour les caches "hors-piste". Il y a des astuces ou des sentiers non mentionnés sur les cartes qui permettent d'atteindre certaines caches, mais je préfère vous laisser les chercher comme je les ai cherchés . Dans certains cas j'indique quand même un parking recommandé voire un Waypoint "Départ de sentier" pour éviter de se garer sur la route départementale (absolument déconseillé !).

Je suis allé sur toutes les caches hors piste avec ma fille de 7 ans. Il est cependant fortement recommandé de se munir de pantalons longs et de chaussures fermées pour éviter les ronces.

Ma vision du Geocaching, c'est qu'on y va pour trouver les caches, pas pour fouiller une forêt pendant des heures en grattant partout. On sait que les GPS sous les arbres ont toujours un peu de mal à 10 mètres près. C'est pourquoi toutes les caches de la série sont faciles à trouver grâce à une photo et un indice aussi descriptif que possible. Les caches sont toutes constituées de bocaux en verre recouverts de scotch marron. (Ben ouais, on en a mangé des olives pendant les apéros Skype du confinement )

Comment trouver la cache Floranges hors piste BONUS

Pour découvrir cette cache finale, il faut avoir trouvé les 25 caches de la série. Chaque cache vous donnera un indice, à noter précieusement. (Prenez les en photo si vous voulez, mais ne les publiez pas, merci). Les indices sont sous la forme A = 1, B = 2 etc... <-- C'est un exemple, hahaha ! La lettre O a été omise exprès.

Il faudra combiner tous ces indices pour reconstituer les coordonnées de la cache finale. Les petits malins qui pensent que la cache finale se trouve au centre du cercle peuvent toujours la calculer d'après les coordonnées des 25 caches, mais vous pensez bien que je l'ai mise ailleurs .

Attention, la forêt de Floranges est parfois "réservée" à la chasse, ces jours là il est fortement déconseillé de venir chercher des Geocaches. Pour connaitre le calendrier des jours de chasse, rendez-vous sur le site de l'ONF et téléchargez le calendrier "Forêt Domaniale de Lanvaux - Floranges"

The "Floranges Hors Piste" series

I propose a series of 25 caches which form a circle, plus a bonus cache. This project was born during the "COVID 19" containment in March 2020, when we were allowed to walk 1 km from home. I'm lucky enough to live on the edge of the Floranges forest, but always hiking the same paths after teleworking was boring. So, I had to find other reasons to go to the forest, and why not discover "unexplored" places. At first the idea was to draw a perfect circle with a radius of 1km and to hide the caches at regular intervals, wherever the place was. Eventually I eliminated the really dangerous swamps and private property. (Hence the holes in the circle). As for the notion of "off-track" I eventually often succumbed to the ease of placing caches along the trail but not always

Tips to find the 25 caches of the series

The circumference of the circle being 2*pi km = 6.28 km, it is illusory to think it can be made in one day. (Edit:  Indeed, the first few finders demonstrated that you can do it in about 6 hours if you go straight from cache to cache). Because of course it is often necessary to pass again by the paths between 2 caches. But mountain biking is a good way for those in a hurry, to leave at the side of the road to go into the forest for the "off-track" caches. There are some tips or trails not mentioned on the maps that allow you to reach some caches, but I prefer to let you look for them the way I looked for them . In some cases, I still indicate a recommended parking or even a "trailhead" waypoint to avoid parking on the departmental road (absolutely not recommended!).

I went to all the off-trail caches with my 7-year-old daughter. It is however strongly recommended to wear long pants and closed shoes to avoid thorns.

My vision of Geocaching is that we go there to find the caches, not to dig into a forest for hours scratching everywhere. We know that the GPS under the trees always have a bit of trouble within 10 meters. That's why all the caches in the series are easy to find with a photo and a hint which is as descriptive as possible. The caches are all made of glass jars covered with brown scotch tape (well yeah, we ate some olives during the Skype aperitifs of the containment, ).

How to find the Floranges hors piste BONUS cache

To discover this final cache, you must have found all 25 caches in the series. Each cache will give you a clue, which you should write down carefully. (Take pictures of them if you want, but don't publish them, thank you). The clues are in the form A = 1, B = 2 etc... <-- It's an example, hahaha! The letter O has been omitted on purpose.

You'll have to combine all these clues to find out the coordinates of the final cache. The smart guys who think that the final cache is in the center of the circle can of course calculate it from the coordinates of the 25 caches, but don’t you think I put it somewhere else ?

Be careful ! The Forêt de Floranges is sometimes closed for hunting. In such case, I strongly advise NOT to seek for geocaches. In order to check the hunting days, look on the ONF website and download the calendar "Forêt Domaniale de Lanvaux - Floranges"
