Geocache Description:

01 August 2020, 14:00 - 15:30

Welcome to Bald Head Peninsula!

You are invited to attend a CITO (cache in, trash out) event located on an island that separates Weller's Bay from Lake Ontario. As this cache is located on an island, you will require a boat to reach the posted coordinates. The location of the CITO is Crown Land.

This spot is accessible to the public by boat only. As you have to cross a major boating channel to get from the mainland to the island, swimming is not recommended. During the summer, you will see dozens of boats lined up along the beach, on both the Wellers Bay side and the Lake Ontario side. When placed, we reached the island using a motorized boat and then waded along the sand bar to shore, however in calm conditions you can paddle to the island in canoe or kayak. I would suggest launching from the public launch located at N 044° 01.955' W 077° 37.053'. If you are looking for a shorter paddle, there are several pay-per-use boat launches along Carter Road and Barcovan Beach Road such as the one located at N 044° 01.591' W 077° 37.615', which charges $8.00 to use the launch and park for the day. As this is an island, please ensure you leaqve yourself enough time to travel to the island and arrive at the posted coordinates during the event time.

This CITO is being held outdoors in a region of Ontario that is confirmed to be in Stage 3 of the reopening (Prince Edward County)

To respect Ontario government outdoor gathering limits, please log your Will Attend with due consideration. This event is WEATHER DEPENDANT and may be postponed due to the weather, if boating conditions are unsafe. Every attempt will be made to update the page within 48 hours if the event needs to be postponed.

It will be hosted at the posted coordinates - beginning at 2:00pm and ending at 3:30pm on Saturday, August 1st. Due to current COVID-19 regulations, contact information will be collected from attendees; this information will be kept private and will only be used should an attendee become aware that they have tested positive, or been in direct contact with someone who has tested positive, for COVID-19.

As the CITO host, Auston the geo-dog and I will be at a safe physical distance at the CITO coordinates to acknowledge attendees, and to confirm their attendance.

This CITO is being hosted on Crown Land, on a beach that is publically accessible. The event attendees will likely not be the only individuals on the beach during the event time, and attendees should be aware that there is a possibility of contact with non-geocaching folk (muggles) while on the island.

Please consider wearing a face mask and bring your own garbage bags, gloves and hand sanitizer. Additional garbage bags and gloves can be provided by the event host as well.

Attendees must practice physical distancing at all times, as per provincial guidance.

Please focus your CITO efforts on the beach areas of the island, but note that you MAY GET WET (it is an island after all) - there are several kilometers of beach here that can be explored and cleaned - items collected during the CITO can be dropped off at the grey and white Crownline boat that will be parked about 10 feet off shore near N 44 01.194 W 077 36.780. It can also be left on shore and the event host will ensure the items are collected and removed back to the mainland.
