Geocache Description:

01 August 2020, 07:30 - 10:00

Welcome to the Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science Nature Trail System. Once again we have teamed up with the Museum for a wonderful opportunity to give back to a supportive geocaching host.

Twenty two acres of the Museum’s land is set aside as a nature preserve with several trails that are wheelchair accessible. Put on your walking shoes to explore scrub, hammock and wetland habitats. Watch and listen for the animals scurrying through the undergrowth. As you stroll through the tranquil habitat, you can imagine what Florida looked like before roads and towns were cut into the natural vegetation. The Nature Trails are open to the public free of charge during museum operating hours. Trails can lead you to the Brevard Planetarium and the Travis Park Recreation Center.

While much of the world has come to a unexpected stop, one thing does not stop. And that is Mother Nature. While the Museum is currently closed, the plants and derbies continue to grow and pile up. That's where we come in.

EVENT DATE: Saturday, 01 Aug 2020
This trail maintenance workday event will start at 7:30 a.m. and go until 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Bring sunscreen, bug juice, gloves, and a willingness to get sweaty. There will be plenty of ice-cold water on hand. Please be prompt and come prepared to work. Please wear appropriate footwear/clothing for working on trails and lets be careful.

IMPORTANT COVID INFORMATION

The Museum Management has asked that while we attend the pre and post gatherings, that we wear masks and observe social distancing guidelines. While we are out working the trails, with 22 acres of land, there should be no problems keeping socially distant. No arguments here please, we're just trying to be a good friend and help out. There is plenty of room to spread out.

We will be doing light trail maintenance and trash pick-up. Non-powered trail tools (rakes, shovels, clippers, pruners, etc) will be helpful.
