Forgotten Bridge Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Dan Q: 13:50 Out on a walk with the dog along the footpath nearby I elected to drop in on this cache for routine maintenance. But as I approached the GZ I learned that the footbridge that provided this cache with its home clearly wasn't as "forgotten" as I'd thought! The council have been up here again and rather than just signing the log as they did last time (GL1657F80) they were on a mission to replace the entire bridge!

When they did this with the bridge that hosted GC90RH3 they gave me enough notice to remove the cache, but not this time: by the time the geopup and I discovered the "new" bridge the cache container was long gone. (It was a modified ammo can, so I might reach out and see if they happened to retrieve it during the demolition and can give it back!)

Ah well; it was a fun cache while it lasted.

Geocache Description:

I've walked this path several times but never seen another human soul on it. Which is a pity, because the walk to this cache affords beautiful countryside views: sprawling cornfields separated by traditional hedgerows, Boar's Hill and Wytham Woods in the distance, and hiding places for all manner of animals. Keep your eyes peeled for deer, hares, foxes, finches and dragonflies.

I suggest approaching from the South, where I've marked a trailhead. Pay attention to the signage and do not trespass through Sutton Farm. It's particularly serene here at sunset but the walk can be enjoyed any time off day.

The GZ is at an old wooden footbridge over Limb Brook, which for at least the last thousand years has marked the boundary between Stanton Harcourt and Eynsham. Does anybody still use this crossing? I've no idea: it's certainly a little neglected. The cache container is a medium-sized ammunition box. If you've not seen one of these cache containers before, please watch my 90-second video showing how to open, close, and not-break it. The hiding place should not be hard to find, but you might need to reach deep to get the cache. Please remember to hide it back as you found it.
