The Narrow Place Lookout is a lookout on Georges Road in the Watagans National Park, from this spot you will have some awesome views of the surrounding countryside. It was named by the local Hall family, long-established landowner graziers. They would use the steep narrow track to lead their horses up onto the escarpment from well below the lookout.
Endangered brush-tailed rock wallabies are known to sun themselves below the escarpment, and birdwatching is at its best in summer when wedge-tailed eagles may be seen.
The lookout is located on Georges Rd, a fire-trail you can access from Heaton Rd. The fire-trail is in good condition, but does have a few low spots that get rutted and muddy. It could well be 2WD traversable in dry weather, but consider this track 4WD only. We do it without issue in our Subaru Forester. It is very flat, and would make a nice 5km each way walk or mountain bike ride also (it is part of the Great North Walk). At the time of cache publication, Watagan Forest Rd, which climbs up from Heaton Rd is severely eroded and not suitable for 2WD vehicles. Mt Faulk Rd from the Cooranbong area to the south is in excellent condition.
As of September 2022, heavy rains have caused damage and subsequent closure to Heatons and Mt Faulk Roads, at this time the only entry is via Watagan Forest Rd.
The cache is hidden about 20m off the southern side of the road, away from the cliffs.
This cache is located within the Watagans National Park, with permission by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. Please ensure that NSW NPWS regulations are followed during your visit.
