TORRES DE QUART Traditional Geocache

Las Torres de Quart son otro monumento emblemático de la ciudad de Valencia y están cerca de las Torres de Serrano, dos puertas de entrada a la ciudad vieja medieval que han permanecido prácticamente intactas hasta nuestros días. Están ubicadas en la intersección de la calle Guillén Castro con la calle de Quart y se construyeron entre 1441 y 1460. Anteriormente, se llamaban Torres de la Cal, ya que todo el transporte de cal entraba a la ciudad a través de esta puerta que daba al oeste.

Historia de las Torres de Quart.

Antiguamente, la ciudad tenía doce puertas para entrar a la ciudad a través de la muralla. Desafortunadamente, fueron destruidas en el siglo XIX por el gobernador civil Cirilo Amorós por razones de limpieza de la ciudad y la necesidad que tenía la ciudad de crecer y aumentar su perímetro. De las doce torres solo quedan las Torres de Serranos y las Torres de Quart.

Está formada por dos enormes torres de planta cilíndrica, de 34 metros de altura en el exterior y aplanada en el interior. Son un buen ejemplo de construcción militar gótica e impresionan por su robustez y belleza . Desde la cima ofrecen hermosas vistas de toda la ciudad de Valencia.

Su uso principal en la antigüedad era defender la ciudad de los ataques, pero luego se convirtió en una prisión para mujeres.

Es una puerta llena de historia. Por ejemplo, ha experimentado momentos dramáticos, como cuando recibió los 132 impactos de disparos de los ejércitos de Napoleón, cuyas marcas aún se pueden ver en la fachada de las torres.
