Geocache Description:

Brant Fell, is the site of one of the 21 'stations' that priest and author, Thomas West described in his 1778  book 'A Guide to the Lakes”.  Geocacher FlipflopNick put out caches at 8 of the stations in 2006 but archived them all in March 2020 just before the Covid#19 restrictions came into force,

This is a resurrection of FlipFlopNicks cache to keep the history alive and because there is a great view from the top of Brant Fell.  If you did the original cache, this one is in virtually the same place.

West’s book was probably the first guide to the Lake District.  He directed the readers to visually rewarding viewpoints or “stations”, from which picturesque vistas of lakes could be admired.  On the top of Brant Fell you can just make out the remains of building that was once the viewing station. There are views of Windermere to the north and the south and walking access from all directions. The suggested parking is the closest but there are lots of paths. There are other caches in the area to extend your walk.

The cache is away from summit so that you can’t be seen from the hoards of walkers on a sunny day. Its a small click lock box containing a waterproof log in a 35mm canister. There is room for swaps. Please bring your own pen.
