Geocache Description:

Taken from the language of the original Darkinjung inhabitants, Woy Woy means much water or big lagoon, but there's more than just waterways to explore here. This cache will lead you along a lesser-known walking track through Brisbane Water National Park, taking in Woy Woy Bay's unspoilt natural beauty on a moderate descent to the water's edge. At a bit over a kilometre each way, the return hike should take about an hour.

The Parking waypoint can be difficult to see from the road but, when heading south, is thirty metres past the start of the 60 zone. From there, follow the Woy Woy Bay Fire Trail into the national park. This soon crosses three small watercourses, the third being the largest and leading down to a nice cascade to the right of the track. From the top of the rise just before the ford, you can take a short detour through open bushland to reference point R0 at the cascade, with a larger waterfall visible just downstream. As always, take care on any wet rock as it could be very slippery.

As the trail descends, at reference point R1 it passes through a pretty glade of sandstone outcrops, wind-eroded caves and ferns looking like something out of Middle-earth.

The fire trail abruptly ends before reaching the bottom, but a narrow walking track continues the rest of the way to GZ from trackhead T0 at the far end of the turning circle. Note: a large tree has recently fallen across the track where it leaves the turning circle, with the easiest way around to the left and over the trunk near the root ball.

At GZ, the official national park boundary is fortuitously a few metres back from the water's edge, with nature providing a convenient hiding place for the cache in that narrow strip of land. The container is a 1 litre Sistema. It includes a pencil but bring a pen just in case as it's a long walk back to the car to get one. When replacing the cache, please stand it on end and tucked into the left side of its hiding place where it will sit snugly out of sight.
