Geocache Description:

Number 1458 in a series of caches where a red telephone box is in close proximity to a post box.

The only rules are that they have to be able to be photographed together, be not more than 100’ apart and the phone boxes have to be red.

Chapel Row is situated about a crossroads, on the road topping the northern escarpment between Thatcham and Theale in West Berkshire above the River Kennet Valley and approximately 5.5 miles East North-East of Newbury, Berkshire. There has been an inn at the site since the mid 17th Century.

Woodland with public access to common land occupies the land immediately West and South-West of the parking area. Our caching walk ‘CRM from Chapel Row to Midgham’ crosses this land and can be started from the same parking area.

See GC8AYBR for more details.

At the crossroads you will soon spot this fine pair. The telephone box is now a book exchange.

Now for the cache : The telephone box has a list of dates recording memorable local events.

ABCD The local church became the possession of Reading Abbey

19EF : George Lailey, bowl turner, at Turners Green, died

19GH : All Saints Church built

19JK : Queen Elizabeth II visited on LM May 19JK when more oak trees were planted

19NP : Parish boundaries were altered

The village has suffered more than one flooding event.  How many years were there between the latest flooding and the completion of the flood alleviation scheme? R

Finally check the collection times on the post box. At what hour is there a later collection (not the latest) from another post box in heavenly Reading? S

The cache can be found a short walk away at  N51 KE.C(G-M)N   W001 AB.(R-S)PH

The digit sum for all 15 digits of the final co-ordinates is 38.

The stamp is not a trade item. Please leave it in the cache.
