What: Kayaking event at Silver Springs State Park
When: Sunday, 10-18-20, from 10:00am to 3:00pm(ish)
Why: Winding down from FFF2020
In Greek mythology, Charon was the ferryboat pilot, who carried souls down the River of Woe, across the River Styx, to Hades.
He required a payment of a single piece of silver, for the journey.
You won't need nearly that much, for this adventure.
If memory serves, they charge $6, to launch your own boat.
We will gather at the posted coords at 10:00am, and commence some quality schmoozing for roughly half an hour or so. Those without boats are welcome to attend, and hang out with us, helping to haul boats, or just hanging out. At around 10:30am, we will splash our boats, and proceed along this amazing river, eventually taking out at Ray Wayside Park. My personal favorite route is to follow the Fort King Canoe Trail till it dumps into the Silver River, then head upstream, to the main boil. After seeing this awe inspiring site, I float casually downstream, to Ray Wayside. The total distance of this route is roughly 7.5 miles. You can cut the distance down to only 5.1 miles, if you bypass the canoe trail, and head straight down the main run.
We will have a vehicle staged at Ray Wayside, to haul folks back to their cars at Silver Springs State Park.
Hope to see you there!
