Geocache Description:

This cache which requires you to bring your own WRITING UTENSIL is located in what remains of the St Placidus church foundation.

There are caches placed at St Michaels, St Stephens, and now St Placidus.  These country parishes were like cities in these rural areas. They provided so many services for thier parishoners.

In 1904, threre were 28 Catholic families, who wished to build a church with Father Ildephonse Peche, O.S.B.in charge.  The cost of the church was $1200. The size of the church was 30' x 40', with a seating capacity of 140. By 1915 the first church was no longer large enough and a new church in the form of a cross (95' x 34') was built. the older church was torn down. That church burned down to the ground on January 1, 1928, due to a faulty chimney.. Another church was built and one half hour prior to its first service, it too burned to the ground. A fourth and final church was built 9103' x 46') and held its first service on October 6, 1929. The church continued with weekly masses ,until its final Mass was said on All Saints Day, Novmeber 1, 1970. An auction was held in October of the next year. Many of the items from the church were sent to other parishes being built including the pews, and alter to the new St Joseph's Indian Mission Church in Twin Buttes.
