Skatu tornis Durbes ezera krastā izbūvēts pēc Durbes novada domes iniciatīvas 2018. gadā Kurzemes plānošanas reģiona vadītā projekta "Dabas tūrisms visiem" ("UniGreen") ietvaros ar "Interreg" Latvijas-Lietuvas pārrobežu sadarbības programmas 2014. – 2020. gadam atbalstu, lai sniegtu iespēju gan ornitologiem, gan visiem citiem putnumīļiem un interesentiem vērot ezerā mītošos putnus un baudīt mierpilno ezera apkārtni.

Skatu tornis Durbes ezera krastā atrodas Durbes-Vārtājas senlejā. Ezera platība ir 670 ha un tas ir bagāts ar zivju krājumiem. Ezerā visbiežāk sastopamas 14 zivju sugas un katru gadu tas tiek papildināts ar zivju mazuļiem. Durbes ezers ir arī nozīmīga putnu migrācijas vieta. No 28 Latvijā sastopamajām aizsargājamajām putnu sugām, 14 ir novērojamas Durbes ezera apkārtnē. Ezera pieguļošā teritorijā ir norisinājušies vēsturiski notikumi. 1260. gada 13. jūlijā notikusi Durbes kauja, kurā žemaišu un kuršu karaspēki sakāva Livonijas un Vācu ordeņa kopīgos spēkus. Durbes kauja tiek uzskatīta par vienu no spilgtākajām Baltijas tautu vēsturē. Ezera ziemeļaustrumu teritorijas palienu pļavas ir iekļautas Natura 2000 aizsargājamo teritoriju tīklā.

The observation tower on the shores of Lake Durbe was built at the initiative of Durbe County Council in 2018 within the framework of the Kurzeme Planning Region-led project "Nature Tourism for All" ("UniGreen") with support from Interreg Latvia-Lithuania Cross Border Cooperation Program 2014-2020 an opportunity for ornithologists and all other bird lovers and interested to watch the birds living in the lake and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the lake.

The observation tower on the shores of Lake Durbe is located in the Durbe-Gate valley. The lake has an area of ​​670 ha and is rich in fish stocks. The lake is home to 14 fish species and is supplemented annually with juvenile fish. Durbe Lake is also an important migration site for birds. Of the 28 protected bird species found in Latvia, 14 are found in the vicinity of Lake Durbe. Historical events have taken place in the area adjacent to the lake. On July 13, 1260, the Battle of Durbe took place, in which Samogitian and Kurdish troops defeated the combined forces of the Livonian and German orders. Durbe Battle is considered one of the brightest in the history of the Baltic nations. The floodplain meadows of the northeastern part of the lake are included in the Natura 2000 network of protected areas.
