Geocache Description:

LV

Sākot no Mazsalacas sākas Salacas ielejas dabas parks, visā tecējumā upe atrodas Ziemeļvidzemes biosfēras rezervātā.[1]

Mīt vairākas zivju sugas: augšdaļā — sapalilīdakas, ālanti, asari, lejasdaļā arī plaužiraudas. Pavasaros daudz vimbu, rudeņos lašveidīgo. Salacas krastos pie Staiceles regulāri pavasarī tiek rīkotas makšķerēšanas sacensības "Staiceles vimba".[2]

Vēsture

No Indriķa hronikas zināms, ka 1216. gada pavasarī iebrucēji no Sāmsalas pa Salacas upi (latīņuSaletsa) iebruka letu zemēs ap Burtnieku ezeru, bet leti viņus sakāva un piespieda bēgt.[3]

Salaca is a river in North Vidzeme. It is 96 km long, starts from Burtnieki Lake and flows into the Baltic Sea, the Gulf of Riga. Average flow through mouth: 31.3 m³ / s, max. 184 m³ / s, min. 4.4 m³ / s. There are beautiful pink sandstone outcrops on the banks of the Salaca River, such as the Pietrags Red Cliffs and Skaņaiskalns. There are rapids in several places in the river, most noticeably at the Surveyors. With the water level dropping at the end of the summer, the depth at some of the widest spots is only about 15 cm. The river also has deep, slow stretches. In summer the water in Salaca is clear, warm, water lilies bloom. Starting from Mazsalaca, the Salaca Valley Nature Park begins, and the river flows through the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve.  There are several fish species: bream, pike, ling, perch, bream, roach at the bottom. Lots of vimba in spring, salmon in autumn. On the shores of the Salaca River near Staicele, a fishing competition "Staicele vimba" is organized in the spring.  History It is known from the Chronicle of Henry that in the spring of 1216 the invaders from the Saaremaa on the Salaca River (Latin: Saletsa) invaded the lands of Lake Burtnieki, but they were defeated and forced to flee.
