Change 2.2 – So, here we are almost a half-year into the COVID virus. This brings us to our third change in plans for this event. Here is an excerpt from the original planned event (02 May 2020) to celebrate the Blue Switch:
We will be holding a Community Celebration Event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the "Flipping of the Big Blue Switch". On 02 May 2000, 20 years ago, Selective Availability (SA) was disabled allowing much greater accuracy by the Global Positioning System (GPS) to the civilian sector. This simple act helped pave the way to what has become known as GEOCACHING.
Rather than continuing to shuffle dates around, we have decided to change up the style of the event. Instead of our “normal” luncheon/dinner meetings, we will be making this a C.I.T.O. type event. We will take this opportunity to turn our attention towards the S.A.G. section of the Adopt-A-Highway. This will allow us to practice Social Distancing and still earn the special 20-year icon. And, clean up a small corner of our planet. For those that have done these road-side trash removals in the past, you know there is usually 15-20 foot spacing. So, distancing will not be a problem. With minor modifications at the sign-in process, this should not be a problem either. This seems like the best solution to make this event happen. Latex Gloves, Bags and Grabbers will be provided.
