M-i-t-M-o-N #19 Greg's Hut Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

trebor nosnwot: There is no way this crisis is going to be over in two weeks so sadly this event will not happen.
Perhaps in the autumn things will get back to normal and events will be up and running again.

Geocache Description:

17 April 2020, 22:00 - 23:45

Please read the whole listing below

Midnight In The Middle of Nowhere is travelling north, yet again, we just can't stay away.

Another chance to meet up at a bothy in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.

There is free basic accommodation very close-by for those wishing to sleep over but it is small so could be pretty cosy.

I and others will be sleeping on the fells tonight.

The event will start at 11pm , and will end just before midnight on the same night.

Come prepared as it is an upland area, you will need waterproofs, warm clothing, proper footwear, emergency rations, a torch and a shelter in-case the weather turns nasty. An OS map, and the ability to use a compass would also be an idea to prevent you getting lost.  You will need an ability to navigate yourself to and from the event site, and an awareness of your own safety and limitations. I would also recommend that you bring some food and a warm drink, it is April on top of the Pennines after all,

The accommodation has a fire but there will be nothing to burn so I would suggest you bring 1 kg of coal per person.

Please be aware this is a serious undertaking, though there are good paths from the parking spot.

Hopefully the sky will be clear and we will get a view of the night sky and also if anyone is interested I’ll point out a few stellar constellations

Come along, have a chat and a laugh about caching, bring some TBs, pick up some TBs. All will be welcome.

For those wishing to walk in as a group, if you log ‘will attend’ and  look for notifications 24 hours before I will let people know from where and when I intend to walk up to the event.

You will not be able to drive all the way to the event..

As always with my events there will be a log book to sign (this is optional) and I will choose one lucky signatory at the end of the event who will be invited to claim FTF.

Finally if you are intending to sleep up there, you won’t be on your own several of us will be staying the night close by indoors, but you will need to bring your own food and sleeping gear to join us and some fuel for the wood burner.

Snorers and silent sleepers are all welcome.

I’m looking forward to meeting you on the fells, in the middle of nowhere, in the dark. (Yes my wife thinks I’m mad too)

Logistics

Off road parking stated  is about a 6 to 10km walk to bothy with steep but very clear paths, the parking spots are both about 500m lower than the event.  Best allow about 2 hours for the walk in.

The parking location given are the trail head too.

Please bring fuel to burn on the fire, I suggest each person brings 1kg of coal, this is not a requirement of attending the event but would be kind.

Sleeping for most will be on a platform of on the floor and it is April so come prepared.
