Cette rue calme, et très peu fréquentée, arbore une fresque relativement méconnue.
Il s'agit du portrait de chacun des papes qui régnèrent sur la ville.
Cette fresque des neuf papes d'Avignon se trouve sur le mur d'un bâtiment administratif.
C'est une commande du département, à l'artiste avignonnaise Agnès Saint-Gal de Pons.
L'oeuvre, qui fut coréalisée avec P. Devauchelle, fut inaugurée en juin 2000.
Ces portraits ont été faits d'après ceux imaginés par Henri Serrur de 1839 à 1840 pour le palais d'Avignon.
(Henri Auguste Calixte César Serrur est un peintre français (1794-1865).)
Les fresques de la rue Dorée, c'est son nom,
reprennent les tableaux en y ajoutant en trompe l'oeil comme des fissures de toile ou une décrépitude de l'enduit mural.
Vous y verrez les papes, suivant leur ordre de regne, du 1er au 9ème:
Clément V (le 1°) , Jean XXII (le 2°) , Benoît XII (le 3°) , Clement VI (4°) ,
Innocent VI (5°) , Urbain V (le 6°) , Grégoire XI (le 7°) , Clément VII (le 8°) ,
et Benoît XIII : le 9° pape en Avignon
Vous pourrez aussi remarquer, tout en haut de la bâtisse, une Fresque sommitale d'Avignon au XIVe siècle!

This quiet street, with very little traffic, has a relatively unknown fresco.
It is the portrait of each of the popes who ruled the city.
This fresco of the nine popes of Avignon is on the wall of an administrative building.
It was commissioned by the department, to the Avignon artist Agnès Saint-Gal de Pons.
The work, which was co-created with P. Devauchelle, was inaugurated in June 2000.
These portraits were made after those imagined by Henri Serrur from 1839 to 1840 for the palace of Avignon.

The frescos of the rue Dorée, it is its name,
take again the paintings by adding in trompe l'oeil like cracks of fabric or a decrepitude of the mural coating.
