Several years ago the Forest Service lost funding for trail maintenance and this wonderful 140 mile trail through the North Dakota Badlands was in danger of going away. Thanks to a small group of volunteers, mostly mountain bikers, the Maah Daah Hey is once again getting some much needed TLC. With this series of Geocaches near Magpie Camp, I hope to share one of my favorite stretches of the trail. The road in is well maintained gravel. There is a nice campground with connecting trails that are now in pretty good condition. It is open for horse back riding, mountain biking and hiking. There is plenty of parking at the trailhead. Near by attractions include Cedar Top Butte, The Devils Pass and the Ice Caves. I hope you come to enjoy this area as much as I do.
