This is a Community Celebration Event in Cherhill, Wiltshire close to Avebury where we placed the first geocache in Wiltshire on 7th September 2001.
This event celebrates the 20th anniversary of Geocaching. Geocaching started in May 2000 with changes to the GPS system which enabled more accuracy This increased accuracy enabled anyone to find hidden containers, the first of which was hidden on 3rd May in Oregon, USA.
In September 2001 we placed the first cache in Wiltshire, Avebury Stone Circle (GC1B78) which will be celebrating it's 20th birthday. We have several other caches nearby which are nearly as old.
THIS EVENT
TIMING: Saturday 4th September 1200-1400. This event was rescheduled from 2020 so I have deleted the old "will attend" logs for clarity
VENUE: The Black Horse, Main Road, Cherhill, SN11 8UT. We will meet in the beer garden at the rear of the pub which has been reserved for geocachers. Dogs and Horses are welcome.
PARKING There is parking adjacent to the pub
NEARBY CACHING: Avebury Stone Circle is still active and just is a few miles along the A4 along with many other old and excellent caches. My Chalk Downs (GC8WZWT) and Roundway Down (GC8YAT5) trails are also nearby.
