Hercílio Luz Bridge
Primeira ligação entra a Ilha de Santa Catarina e o Continente, a Ponte Hercílio Luz é a mais longa pênsil com sistema de barras de olhal do mundo, com um vão central de 339 metros e uma extensão total de 821 metros.
Elo de integração da Capital com o restante do Estado, a ponte pênsil de aço (que tem um peso total de 5 mil toneladas) serviu à população de forma ininterrupta até o dia 22 de janeiro de 1982, quando sofreu a primeira interdição por causa da deterioração das barras de olhal.
Em março de 1988, a ponte foi reaberta somente ao tráfego de pedestres, bicicletas, motocicletas e carroças, mas voltou a ser interditada, de forma definitiva, em julho de 1991, quando foi providenciada a retirada do piso asfáltico do vão central (o que representou uma diminuição do peso de 400 toneladas).
First connection between the Island of Santa Catarina and the Continent, the Hercílio Luz Bridge is the longest suspension with an eye bar system in the world, with a central span of 339 meters and a total length of 821 meters.
Link between the Capital and the rest of the State, the steel suspension bridge (which has a total weight of 5,000 tons) served the population uninterruptedly until January 22, 1982, when it suffered the first interdiction because of the deterioration of the eye bars.
In March 1988, the bridge was reopened only to pedestrian, bicycle, motorcycle and car traffic, but was definitively banned again in July 1991, when the asphalt floor of the central span was removed (which represented a decrease in weight of 400 tonnes).
