Geocache Description:

JBECK2 TEACHES AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS

Continued Misadventures of Jbeck2 - the Newbie Geocacher

Since there was a puzzle solving event coming up, I decided I should post a new puzzle for it.

I ran out and hid a container, then came home to create the puzzle.

I wanted it to be fun, yet easy to solve.

Sadly, I’ve had trouble lately solving even ones like "Arts & Crafts" – which supposedly only requires skills learned in the first grade.

I decided the best way to make an even easier puzzle would be to use my dog Penny – who has never even been to first grade.

Surely I should be able to train her to create a cache puzzle, given my vast technical skills, right?

I decided to do an easy Sudoku puzzle (because everyone LOVES those, right?) so I set about teaching her the nuances of Sudoku, and built a big Sudoku board that could go on the ground using little paper numbers just like in “Arts&Crafts”.

I was showing her the individual numbers, and getting her to decide which would go in each square (by grunting when I held up the appropriate number).

I thought she was doing well – but as I watched, it didn’t look like she had quite grasped the Sudoku rules at all. The numbers on the board made no sense at all.

What on earth was she doing?

That’s when the trouble started...

When I looked at the completed puzzle at the end, it was clear that this would never work.

Not only were the numbers not in the right place, when I thought she was grunting she had actually fallen asleep and was just snoring!

Bad dog!

Even worse: I discovered that she had mostly eaten the slip of paper that given her with the cache coordinates on it!

I tried to recover as much as I could from the paper, but there wasn’t much left... Ummmmm... I’m pretty sure the Northing starts with a “5”. Does that help?

If not, I guess you could always try the other cache in this series...
