The Great Backyard Bird Count!!
This year the 2RPs will (once again) be helping the National Audobon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology with the Great Backyard Bird Count and we want your help!!
So please come down to the posted coordinates and birdwatch with us!
On Friday February 14th from 9am-10am.
No experience necessary!! We'll handle sending in the paperwork. (But you can preview what birds to be on the lookout for [here] while in Scott County.)
Just know that the information we collect will help researchers learn more about how birds are doing, and how to continue protecting them and thier natural environment.
Some examples of what researchers hope to answer;
• How will the weather and climate change influence bird populations?
• Some birds, such as winter finches, appear in large numbers during some years but not others. Where are these species from year to year, and what can we learn from these patterns?
• How will the timing of birds’ migrations compare with past years?
• How are bird diseases, such as West Nile virus, affecting birds in different regions?
• What kinds of differences in bird diversity are apparent in cities versus suburban, rural, and natural areas?
Things to bring:
1. Yourself.
2. Your family and friends.
3. Your love of the outdoors....and birds!
4. Camera? Binoculars? Hand Warmers? Oh my!
