Кофе был завезен в Россию Петром Первым. В Голландии он «открыл» кофе, полюбил его и привез в Россию в начале XVIII века.
Несмотря на то, что русские были в основном «любителями чая», кофе со временем набирал все больше и больше. (Эту ссылку необходимо проверить, поскольку россияне в основном пьющие водку).
Вот некоторые факты о привычках употребления кофе в России:
- 2/3 всех российских любителей кофе - граждане Москвы и Санкт-Петербурга
- Жители Санкт-Петербурга ежедневно выпивают 1-2 чашки кофе и в шутку называют «кофейники». Жители Москвы - «чайники», так как имеют тенденцию пить больше чая
- около 85% россиян предпочитают растворимый кофе кофейным зернам
- с каждым годом количество любителей свежего кофе в России растет, количество любителей растворимого кофе уменьшается
- капучино - самый популярный напиток в российских кофейнях
- дома россияне в основном варят кофе в турецких кофейниках, которые называются джевсы, в кофеварках Мока или кофейных плунжерах и любят добавлять молоко, сливки, специи, шоколад, ягоды, лимон, ликер и т. д.
- до 100% кофе в России импортируется. Основными поставщиками являются Вьетнам, Бразилия, Индонезия.

Coffee was introduced to Russia by Peter the Great. He "discovered" coffee while in Holland, became fond of it and brought the drink to Russia in the beginning of XVIII century.
Despite the fact that the Russians were mainly “tea-drinkers”, coffee gained more and more as time goes on. (This reference needs to be checked as Russians are mainly vodka drinkers).
Some facts about Russia coffee drinking habits are:
- 2/3 of all Russian coffee-drinkers are citizens of Moscow and St. Petersburg
- St. Petersburg citizens drink 1 or 2 cups of coffee daily and are jokingly called “coffee pots”. Moscow citizens are “tea pots”, as they tend to drink more tea
- about 85% of Russians prefer instant coffee to coffee beans
- every year the number of fresh coffee drinkers in Russia goes up, the number of instant coffee drinkers goes down
- cappuccino is the most popular drink in Russian coffee houses
- at home Russians mostly brew coffee in Turkish brewing pots called jezves, in Moka pots or coffee plungers and like to add some milk, cream, spices, chocolate, berries, lemon, liqueur, etc.
- up to 100% of coffee in Russia is imported. The main suppliers are Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia.

Of all the languages of Russia, Russian is the only official language at the national level. There are 35 different languages which are considered official languages in various regions of Russia, along with Russian. There are over 100 minority languages spoken in Russia today.
