Geocache Description:

02 February 2020, 14:00 - 14:45

This Event is being held so that geocachers can discover the beautiful grounds of Brookwood Military Cemetery.

We will be at the RAF Shelter from 2pm to 2.45pm as it will provide some cover if the weather is not kind to us and also has some seats.

Brookwood Military Cemetery is the largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) cemetery in the United Kingdom.  The cemetery contains Memorials to thousands of service men and women who were killed during the two World Wars and who have no grave as well as the graves of over 5,000 service men and women.  They came from Commonwealth countries as well as America, France, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Belgium and a few others.

The RAF Shelter was designed by Sir Edward Maufe after the Second World War.  It contains the register of the names of all those buried in the RAF section of the cemetery.

A large part of the CWGC’s work involves horticulture and the grounds are kept immaculate all year round, creating a wonderful atmosphere of beauty and peacefulness.
Don’t forget to look out for the amazing giant Sequoia trees.

The Military Cemetery is a short walk from Brookwood Station through the main Brookwood Cemetery.  If arriving by car, access is from Dawney Hill (A324) between Pirbright and Brookwood.
