République togolaise
Le Togo est un pays long et étroit d'Afrique de l'Ouest avec un littoral court sur le golfe de Guinée. L'intérieur est constitué de plateaux s'élevant dans des zones montagneuses et la partie extrême nord est aride.
Le climat est tropical, plus sec à l'intérieur des terres. L'agriculture est le pilier de l'économie du pays. Le coton, le café et le cacao sont exportés, mais le phosphate est la principale exportation.
Le raffinage du pétrole et la transformation des aliments sont les principales industries. Lomé est un centre commercial entrepot.
Seulement Robusta
Le café est la troisième exportation du pays, derrière le phosphate et le coton. Il représente moins de 5% des revenus d'exportation.
Seul le Robusta est produit et les producteurs sont de petits exploitants qui produisent à la fois du cacao et du café. Le Togo Robusta jouissait d'une bonne réputation mais la qualité de la tasse a baissé ces dernières années. Les exploitations ne dépassent généralement pas 2 ha.
La production de café a commencé en 1920 pendant la zone coloniale. La production de café a été constamment inférieure à 15 000 tonnes au cours des 12 dernières années.
Togolese Republic
Togo is a long narrow country in West Africa with a short coastline on the Gulf of Guinea. The interior consists of plateaux rising to mountainous areas and the extreme north portion is arid.
The climate is tropical, drier inland. Agriculture is the mainstay of the country's economy. Cotton, coffee and cocoa are exported, but phosphate is the main export.
Oil refining and food processing are the main industries. Lomé is an entrepot trade center.
Only Robusta
Coffee is the third largest export for the country, substantially behind phosphate and cotton. It represents less than 5% of the export revenues.
Only Robusta is produced and growers are smallholders who produce both cocoa and coffee. The Togo Robusta used to enjoy a good reputation but the cup quality has gone down in recent years. Farms are usually not more than 2 ha.
Coffee production started in 1920 during the colonial area. The coffee production was constantly below 15000 tons over the last 12 years.
Languages
Of the 39 languages spoken in Togo, the sole official language is French.
