Come celebrate 202 years of geocaching at an epic event filled with good friends, games within games, and prizes. This is...
To fully experience the game, you should log both events and start your day at:
However, any geocacher may attend this event and socialize with other geocachers. You do not have to compete in The BarterDash game to claim your Community Celebration Event smiley. The event will be held in the main room of The Gate Escape.
When logging your Will Attend, please note how many people are coming. If enough people sign up ahead of time, I will book food/drink trucks.
Now that the geocaching portion is over, this will become a game of Haggle. Here are the basics of how the evening will go:
The event starts at 6 o'clock with contestants (geocachers) in The BarterDash getting the playing cards they've collected through out the day verified. Bring all your unopened card envelopes to the judges' table. A judge will verify your envelopes against your punch card and mark each of your cards as verified.
Once you have verified cards, it’s time to trade! Talk to other teams, form alliances, trade information about the rules for scoring, or trade actual game cards... whatever it takes to make the highest scoring hand for your team.
At 7 o'clock, you will need to turn in your final hand to the judges. Place the cards you want to be scored in the large envelope supplied at the beginning of The BarterDash event. Make sure your team name is on the outside!
Now is the time to relax! You can bring your own food, or there are restaurants nearby with delivery and take-out. With enough Will Attends, I'll book a food and drink truck as well.
At 7:15, the list of rules will be announced. Then, a judge will open each envelope and score each hand. Scores will be available in real-time, hopefully projected on a wall. Dozens of prizes are available, so multiple teams will be able to select prizes.
I hope to see you there!
