Welcome to the sixth Cave Bagger event.
The plan is to make this a monthly event visiting the caves and mines of Derbyshire.
This event will be held In Oyster Chamber, which is a short distance into the cave, with the usual geochat, trackable swapping and possibly cake!.
We will meet at the entrance waypoint 15 minutes before the event time and make our way to the event location as a group.
For any late comers I will leave 'Cave Bagger' signs to point you to the event location.
If you do choose to enter it is at your own risk although in the spirit of previous events we will all look after each other.
I have entered this mine a few times in the past and I will provide copies of the Survey or 'cave map'.
CARLSWARK CAVERN
Is an extensive system of natural cave with over 2 miles of accessible passageway depending on your size, caving experience and liking for tight spaces!
But fear not! Eyam Passage, which we will use to access Oyster Chamber, is a large Phreatic Tube with a ceiling completely covered in fossilised shells hence the name of the chamber. Mainly walking passage with some stooping. A popular trip for novices and school/scout groups.
Access is via an easy climb down and a short hands and knees passage. There's plenty of footage online.
There are other entrances which require abseil skills, a 'duck' (water with a small air gap!) and a sump (water with no airgap!!).
A previous visitor to Carlswark Cavern is the reluctant holder of the longest under water free dive record for any British cave!!.
There is a waypoint for Parking in a large roadside layby a short walk from the event but this is a fast road so please be mindful with small children when crossing.
AS USUAL YOU WILL REQUIRE A HELMET, A GOOD TORCH AND A BACKUP AS A MINIMUM.
I would also highly recommend wellies, warm clothing and a waterproof outer layer.
Please feel free to message me prior to the event if you have any questions or concerns.
