Foi sede da freguesia, mais tarde transferida para a aldeia de Póvoa de São Miguel.
Foi profundamente afectada pela Barragem do Alqueva que lhe trouxe uma nova paisagem.
Pela sua localização excepcional foi construído um ancoradouro onde atracam os barcos que cruzam a barragem de Alqueva vindos da Marina da Amieira.
É um óptimo local para passear, fazer um piquenique ou até mesmo dar um mergulho.
É uma aldeia pertencente à freguesia da Póvoa de São Miguel de onde dista 6kms.
