About Borth Station

The Aberystwith (sic) and Welsh Coast Railway was opened from Machynlleth to Aberystwyth in 1863, with the station at Borth being one of the original stations on the line along with other stations at Dovey Junction, Glandovey, Ynyslas, Llandre and Bow Street. Of these, only Dovey Junction and Borth remain open, though a new station at Bow Street is currently under construction.
Borth originally had two tracks and platforms, allowing trains to pass each other, but the passing loop and far platform were removed in the 1970s. The station became unstaffed around the same time, and the station buildings were abandoned and began to fall into a state of disrepair. A group of local volunteers took over and renovated some of the station buildings, and opened them as a museum in 2011, displaying many items of local interest, especially from the local railways.
The posted coordinates for the event are outside the station. The museum, which is free (though donations are welcome), is not usually open at this time of year, except for February half term week, but hopefully will be specially open for visitors today for anyone wishing to visit.
