Geocache Description:

Sanquhar Station

Nothing to found on the internet, save for the knowledge that the Station Master’s House has been fully and sympathetically restored and is a holiday let. It’s full of railway memorabilia throughout.

Sanquhar is on the Glasgow and South West main line, described in full for some of the bridge caches further south near Thornhill.

Only two trains a day on a Sunday each way! All the coal trains are long gone, although there is an occasional train carrying biomass from Hunterston to Drax in Yorkshire. Come on Scotrail, do your bit to open up Dumfries & Galloway to the masses by adding more frequent trains.

The station is pretty, with neat rows of manger boxes on each lamppost oozing flowers. The paintwork is usually in very good condition, and on the southside, nearer the road bridge, there is a fairly unfazed population of rabbits more often than not grazing in the open, out of reach behind fencing.

Simple enough cache and dash, but it is overlooked by several houses, so stealth maybe? Of course, if you try to drive here, you will either be met by No Entry signs, and have to figure it out, or it’s the longer route past the Academy and Crawick, doing Auld Stackyard first.

Pen required.
