About North Weald Station


North Weald was opened as a Great Eastern Railway station in 1865, and was electrified after World War 2 when it was transferred to the Central Line.

The service east from Epping to Ongar wasn't well used, and so the service ended in 1994. Ten years later, services resumed, but this time as a heritage railway on the Epping Ongar Railway.

These days, the station sees a variety of heritage trains, both steam and diesel, and heritage buses.

Following the event, the Metropolitan Number 1 Steam engine should be departing at 11am. This was the engine that in 1961 pulled the final stream passenger service on the London Underground.

We will be meeting at the Coach Cafe, where there are a range of cold/hot drinks and food available. Depending on the weather, we'll be inside or out.

I'm not sure about the parking situation at North Weald, but if you're planning to travel on the heritage railway then bus travel from Epping station is included - and I've included coordinates for the parking there. To get to the event in time, you'll need to catch either the 9:45 or the 10:25 bus service from Epping.
