Au moyen âge, un barrage existait sur la commune de Montflours près du gué de l'Ame, point de passage sur la rivière.
Il assurait le fonctionnement d’un moulin situé sur la rive droite et disparu avant 1800.
En 1855, lors de la canalisation de la Mayenne, un nouveau barrage, doté d'une écluse, est construit à un kilomètre en aval du site d’origine.
En 1959, EDF installe une micro-centrale dans le pertuis. Aujourd’hui, elle ne fonctionne plus, le transformateur a été supprimé.
Un petit bâtiment, installé en 1900 sur la rive droite pour permettre l'irrigation des prairies et l'alimentation du château d'Orange, a disparu.
La maison éclusière.
La maison éclusière possède trois travées et trois niveaux. Les ouvertures et les angles du bâtiment sont en tuffeau. Le soubassement de la façade est en granite. Sur le linteau de la porte d'entrée, on peut lire la date de 1854, le numéro (16) et le nom ECLUSE DE L’AME. Un agrandissement a été ajouté au sud de la maison à la fin du 20e siècle.
Au fond du jardin se trouve le fournil.
