Common site problems that may contribute to tree failure
Tree blown over due to shallow root system
- Shallow soils.
- Compacted clay soils.
- Saturated soils.
- Confined rooting areas.
- Inappropriate species for the location (such as large trees in small boulevard strips).
This location is full of wet soils since it is close to a wetland. The wetland has grown in recent wet years causing previously dry trees to be wet and fall in strong winds. In the landscape the problems are different. Usually from root girdling, caused by low planting, root bound plants, or obstructions like edging.
