Geocache Description:

09 November 2019, 13:00 - 14:00

The Church Micro series is the world's largest geocache series, with over 13,000 caches having been published across the UK since sadexploration hid the first one back in November 2007. In order to help celebrate the 12 year anniversary of this milestone event, you are invited for geo-chat and cameraderie to:

The Cathedral Church of St Thomas of Canterbury

in the centre of Old Portmouth. The address is simply High Street, Portsmouth and the postcode for your satnav is PO1 2HH. We will meet from:

1:00pm to 2:00pm on Saturday 9th November 2019

Thanks to the gracious permission of the Cathedral authorities, we will be able to get together inside the Cathedral itself, in the small shop area just to the North of the Tower (marked with an 'X' on the floor plan below). Unfortunately, in light of other events happening later on that day in the building, it will not be possible to stay any longer than the planned times.

Handy to know

The Cathedral is fully wheelchair accessible and has entrances at both the North and South sides of the building. Registered assistance dogs are welcome, other dogs will have to remain outside.

This is a working Cathedral and there is every likelihood that Churchwardens and staff will be active. Also, of course, please remember that this is a centre for spiritual reflection and prayer so whilst geo-chat will be encouraged and we will by no means be silent, I would hope we would all also be respectful of our surroundings.

There is no requirement to make a purchase from the shop to attend. I have also had permission to take along some home-made cake nibbles so that we can have a little bite while we're there.

There will be the usual opportunities to exchange trackables and as this event has an official CM number, it will count toward your CM stats.

Getting there

For cachers using public transport, there are 3 bus stops in the vicinity of the Cathedral. The one right outside is for local buses. For those coming from further afield, the First Group X4 bus stops in High Street on the pavement opposite (to the east) and in front of the hairdressers in Pembroke Road. The railway station is approximately half a mile away at The Hard, where you will also find the main bus station; the terminus for the Stagecoach 700 service.

There is plenty of on-street parking surrounding the Cathedral and if you stay less than 1 hour (check to avoid the Pay and Display sections) you can park for free. Make sure you check the notices carefully on the stretch of road you choose; High Street has 1 hour free parking on one side and 'Pay and Display' on the other.

What to do now

Post a 'Will Attend' log as soon as you think you will be able to come. This advance information will help me give a clear idea to the Cathedral of the number of people who may attend and it makes sure you'll be notified of any subsequent announcements about the event, too.
