Geocache Description:

11 September 2019, 18:00 - 20:30

Let's see if we can get a few more old faces to attend this one.  New faces welcome too!

How to get here:

Train: the location is a 5-10 minute walk from the station (main entrance on the West side, platform 1).  From Leeds, trains are half-hourly until 20:30, hourly after that.  The last train back is 23:17. From York, trains are hourly at about 11 mins past the hour, last train back is 22:06.  In each case, journey time is about 35 min.

Bus:  The location is also 5-10 minutes from the bus station where there are services to and from the local areas; in addition, there is the frequent 36 Leeds and Ripon bus (drops to hourly after 8-ish in the evening).

Car: Parking in Harrogate can sometimes take a bit of searching.  The nearest space is a small Pay & Display behind the pub itself, though finding the correct street (Montpelier Gardens) is an art in itself. Note that this road is one way, so if you miss the entrance, you'll have to drive all round the block - just keep turning left.

There is a multi-storey, the Jubilee (entrance off Cheltenham Road - waypoint shown) a short walk away which is open till 23:00. And for those who simply can't get enough smartphone apps, there is "AppyParking" which shows any free on-street spaces.

Foot: Assuming you can find Betty's cafe opposite the War Memorial, head North down Parliament Street and the Winter Gardens is on the left.

Location: The listing coordinates are for the Winter Gardens, now part of a spacious Wetherspoons pub. The original Victorian building was partly destroyed by fire in the 1930s, though the upper entrance and staircase have been preserved. Entry is also possible from the lower level via Montpelier Gardens.   There is a fair range of beers and trendy gins, plus an extensive pub menu (which can be downloaded from the pub website).
