Geocache Description:

This is a very simple cache to find at Sequoyah State Resort.

I've placed the cache at the old Kile Store and Post Office site. All of Sequoyah State Park is setting on the old townsite of Ray, which was formerly called Grand River community. It was first settled in the 1830's during the Indian removal period. 1n 1904 the name was changed to Ray when William L. Kile applied for and received a Post Office in his store that was originally 1 mile west of this location. He purchased this land from one of the original 2 Cherokees that was allotted this property in 1902. The other 15 allottees in this mile section was freed slaves of Cherokee Nation. The Freedmen community of Ray was about a half mile east of here. The part of Ray west of here was the Cherokee and the half breed allottments. Mr. Kile moved his store to this location to be on a road intersection and to be closer to the Rail Road. His Post Office operated until 1927.

The cache is now an Ammo Box. Keeping with the theme, I have included relics that I have dug on private property as the original contents of this cache. They are:
a 1904 Dime
1952 Silver Half Dollar
an 1800s Brass arrowhead
2 Civil War era Minnie Ball Bullets
2 Civil War era 69 cal. Musket Balls
an 1800s US General Service Military Button

I've also put in there the "My Dog Spot" Travel Bug that I picked up yesterday.

Please take a picture of yourself and or party so that I can post them on the page later.
