About This Specific Location
Founded in 1826, Delaware City is a small port town situated along the Delaware River. Its location at the eastern terminus of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal caused Delaware City to become both an operating base and a way station for a number of significant shipping-related activities. In years prior to WWII, many of the local citizens were waterman who made their living from the water. Today the area is still extensively used by waterman for both business and pleasure. Visitors to this location will learn more about the creation of Delaware City's River Rescue Division and behold the beautiful, state of the art vessel which now serves to protect those on the water.
