Geocache Description:

Caythorpe Station

The line, as well as Caythorpe station, was opened in 1867 by Great Northern Railway. At Caythorpe, the land used for the line was owned by Great Northern chairman, George Hussey Packe. Packe's land was the first in Lincolnshire to be mined for iron ore. Opencast workings were either side of the line and used narrow gauge links to rail heads on the line.

Caythorpe station closed in 1962. The line lasted another three years before complete closure in 1965. The track was lifted soon after.

Almost nothing remains at Caythorpe as the site is now home to a waste recycling plant.

However, the cache will take you to the last remaining bit of Caythorpe station.
