[LV] Atceļā no Kārļa Kazāka koncerta Dikļos, saulrietā iebraucu Umurgā - skaists un interesants miestiņš Latvijas ZA daļā, kurā vēl (vai vairs) nav slēpņa, līdz ar to šī slēpņa mērķis ir izvest cauri Umurgai arī citus ceļotājus, kuri citādāk pa šoseju pabrauktu garām. :) Patīkama bija arī slēpņa izlikšana, kad mūs uzrunāja vietējie garāmgājēji, pastāstīdami ko mēs šeit darām, bija ļoti priecīgi par šādām mūsu aktivitātēm un solījās atceļā kā pirmie pierakstīties viesu grāmatā. :P
Kā vēstī informācija no Vikipēdijas un zudušās Latvijas mājaslapas: Umurga senatnē ietilpusi lībiešu zemē Metsepolē jeb Mežu zemē. Pirmo reizi tā rakstos pieminēta jau 1400. gadā. Senais nosaukums - Ubenorma. Umurgas draudzes novads pirmo reizi minēts 1509. gadā, taču jau 1645. gadā draudzes novadā bija 25 muižas. Apdzīvotā vieta attīstījusies ap baznīcu, kas celta 1496. gadā, pārbūvēta 1859. gadā (valsts nozīmes arhitektūras piemineklis), un Umurgas muižas centru. Dievnama ārējo veidolu pilnīgi izmainījušas vēlāko laiku pārbūves, taču Umurgas draudzi uz dievkalpojumiem vēl joprojām aicina meistara Hansa Meijera 1586. gadā lietais zvans. Umurgai 1933. gadā, lai arī tajā bija tikai 4 dzīvojamās mājas un 25 iedzīvotāji, piešķīra biezi apdzīvotas vietas (ciema) statusu. Par lielāku apdzīvoto vietu Umurga attīstījās Latvijas PSR laikā, kad tā kļuva par padomju saimniecības "Umurga" centru.
No Umurgas nāk arī Juris Neikens (1826-1868), kurš bija latviešu rakstnieks, skolotājs un luterāņu mācītājs. Latviešu Literārās biedrības biedrs, pirmo latviešu dziedāšanas svētku organizētājs Dikļos (1864). Latviešu nacionālās stāstniecības dibinātājs. Ārēji palikdams no jaunlatviešiem savrup, viņš tomēr savā kodolā bija nacionāls un atteicās kopā ar vācbaltiešu mācītājiem apkarot "Pēterburgas Avīzes".

[EN] On my way back from Kārlis Kazaks' concert in Dikļi, I drove through Umurga during sunset - a beautiful and interesting town in the southern part of Latvia, where there is no longer a (or never was a) geocache. Therefore, the purpose of this geocache is to take other travelers through Umurga who would otherwise pass by on the highway. :) The placement of the geocache was pleasant, as the locals approached us, asking what we were doing here. They were very happy about our activity and promised to be the first to sign the guestbook on their way back. :P
According to information from Wikipedia and a lost Latvian website, Umurga was once part of the Livonian land of Metsepole or the Forest land. It was first mentioned in writing in 1400. Its ancient name was Ubenorma. The Umurga parish district was first mentioned in 1509, but by 1645, there were already 25 manors in the district. The settlement developed around the church, which was built in 1496 and rebuilt in 1859 (a national architectural monument), and the center of the Umurga manor. The external appearance of the church has been completely changed by later reconstructions, but the Umurga congregation still invites people to attend services with the bell cast by Master Hans Meijer in 1586. In 1933, Umurga was granted the status of a densely populated area (village), although it only had 4 residential houses and 25 inhabitants. Umurga developed into a larger populated area during the time of the Latvian SSR, when it became the center of the Soviet farm "Umurga".
Juris Neikens (1826-1868), a Latvian writer, teacher, and Lutheran pastor, also comes from Umurga. He was a member of the Latvian Literary Society and organized the first Latvian Song Festival in Dikļi (1864). He was a founder of Latvian national storytelling. Although he remained outwardly separate from the Young Latvians, he was still a nationalist at heart and refused to join the German-Baltic pastors in fighting against the "Petersburg Gazette".
The geocache itself is a micro-sized PET container with a small guestbook hidden on the side of the road, about one and a half meters high. Happy geocaching! :)
