Geocache Description:

24 August 2019, 10:00 - 16:00

Welcome to our 9th year of working with the Albany Visitors Association to bring you the annual Albany Coin Challenge. This year’s challenge will include some new and exciting changes to hopefully make the 2019 Albany Challenge IX better than ever.

To begin with, this year’s event will start and end at the same location. We will again hand out passports at 10:00am, Saturday, August 24 at Allann Bros warehouse lot, 1852 Fescue St. SE, Exit 233 going north or south on I-5 (N 44 37.497 W 123 03.645). Unlike years past, we will hand out this year’s coin at this same location. This year’s challenge will run from 10am until 4pm and passports can be turned in for the coin any time between 1:00 and 4:00pm. This is another change from years past.

Allann Bros has plenty of parking. We are again planning on taking a group pictures and encourage you to be there by 9:45am so you can be in it. There were quite a few cachers that missed last year’s photo.

This year, we’re also trying something new with our homes from our historic homes districts. If you’re interested in vintage homes and architecture, be sure to bring your camera along.

As in previous years, a challenge course has been determined and each geocaching household will be issued a challenge passport beginning at 10:00am. The course has been carefully laid out so that you will also have the opportunity to find caches in the area. There have been many new ones placed since our event last year. Again this year, we’ll include a sheet listing new caches, those caches with lots of favorite points and local gadget caches.

As indicated earlier, completed passports can be brought back to Allann Bros lot where you received it to pick up your coin. PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS A ONE DAY EVENT. We have ordered 175 coins this year so everyone who receives a passport is guaranteed a coin.

Again this year, we plan to give away many very nice door prizes. Unlike previous years, we’re going to handle the door prizes differently in an effort to give everyone an opportunity to receive one. Each survey will be numbered and random numbers will be selected after the packets have been distributed. Winning numbers will be posted at the coin distribution site, Allann Bros warehouse lot, and door prizes may be picked up along with the coin. These prizes are donated by many of our local businesses.

This is a family event and we encourage you to bring your kids and grandkids. There will be something for all ages.

Our coin was again created by Jessica Dilbone and is another ‘one-of-a-kind’ coin that’s a ‘must have.’

After receiving your coin, feel free to hang around and chat with your fellow geocachers. This will be an opportunity to continue any conversations you’ve begun, get hints on puzzles you’ve not solved, or share the happenings of your challenge day. Plan ahead for this and stick a lounge chair in your car.

ALSO, don’t miss the 2019 Albany Pre-Challenge Meet & Greet IX (GC895PV) the day before from 5-7 at the Albany Mennonite Church (N 44 39.558 W 123 03.536)
