Geocache Description:

Spy's Hill P9060049 Also known as Beacon Hill or Lovers Lookout. A lot of little known history and mystery surrounds this public park. During world war 2 , it was believed that a spy was sending information about troop ship movements to a submarine off the coast. Or another assumption was Georgia Anna Boediker who called herself Mrs Gale better known as Shanghai Lil, was involved. There were stories of an underground tunnel leading from Capricorn to nearby Spy Hill and rumours of a gold Buddha buried at Capricorn. In 1933 Lil inherited an old house on about a hectare of land on Fields Hill at 23 Tracy Watts Road Pinetown, she built a house here which she called Capricorn. 90 years ago most people knew Shanghai Lil, she owned an Arts and Crafts emporium at 457 West Street. She was suspected of providing a safe house for German spies. She was thought to monitor military shipping from the top of Spy hill. She was believed to be in radio contact with Berlin. When lights were seen coming from the hill a German man was arrested, the ruin's of his building are still there today. P9060041 Many beautiful flowers can be seen in Spring.
