Monte Isola (or Montisola), 600 meters above sea level, nestled in Lake Sebino (better known as Lake Iseo) is a jewel that deserves to be visited by everyone.
As its name clearly indicates, it is a mountainous island and is the largest lake island not only in Italy, but in the whole central and southern Europe.
In the past only inhabitants of the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia knew it, but now it has become famous in Italy and in the world for having hosted in June 2016 "The Floating Piers" mega Christo's work realized with his wife Jeanne-Claude.
Montisola is easily reached from both the Brescia and Bergamo sides. Once on the island, a walking visit is strongly recommended. The complete tour is about 8 km with very little gradient. If you are in good shape, reach even the island highest points, from which is possible to enjoy even more beautiful panoramas. Two islets, one in the North, the other in the South make the view more characteristic.
There are many places where you can stop and have a break: restaurants overlooking the lake, shops with typical products and picnic-equipped areas will satisfy all needs.
On hot days it is also possible to have a good swim in the lake (allowed only in dedicated areas for bathing). The water of Lake Iseo has been declared "swimming" with a classification of "excellent".

Monte Isola (o Montisola), 600 metri sul livello del mare, immersa nel Lago Sebino (meglio conosciuto come Lago d’Iseo) è un gioiello che merita di essere visitato da tutti.
Come chiaramente dice il suo nome, è un’isola montuosa, lacustre, di origine naturale, ed è la più grande non solo in Italia, ma dell’intera Europa centro-meridionale.
Prima la conoscevano solo Bergamaschi e Bresciani, ma ora è diventata famosa in Italia e nel mondo intero per aver ospitato nel giugno del 2016 “The Floating Piers” mega opera di Christo realizzato con la moglie Jeanne-Claude.
Montisola si raggiunge facilmente sia dalla sponda bresciana che da quella bergamasca. Giunti sull’Isola è fortemente consigliata la visita a piedi. Il giro completo è di circa 8 km con pochissimo dislivello. I più preparati possono raggiungere anche i punti più alti, da cui godere di panorami ancora più belli. Due isolotti, uno a Nord, l’altro a Sud rendono più caratteristica la vista.
Numerosi sono i posti dove potrete fare una sosta: ristoranti vista lago, botteghe con prodotti tipici ed aree attrezzate a pic-nic soddisfano tutte le esigenze. Nelle giornate più calde è possibile fare anche una buona nuotata nel lago (permessa solo nelle zone predisposte alla balneazione). L’acqua del lago d’Iseo è stata dichiarata "balneabile" con una classificazione di “eccellente”.
