La tour du Millénaire (Virtual Rewards 2.0 - 2019-2020)
La tour du Millénaire ou tour de Gedinne est un spectaculaire belvédère construit en 2001, détruit en 2008 pour cause de sécurité, reconstruit et finalement rouvert en juillet 2012.
La tour est située sur le territoire de la commune de Gedinne en Belgique, dans la province de Namur, à deux pas de la frontière française.

Situation géographique
La Tour du Millénaire dominait le plateau de la Croix-Scaille, domaine boisé de 9 000 ha, qui fut un haut lieu de la Résistance en 1944, et qui était, avec ses 503 m d'altitude, le point culminant de la région des Ardennes, et le sixième « sommet » de Belgique.
Au fil des siècles, quatre tours avaient déjà été érigées sur ce site.
Construction
La construction de cette tour d'observation est le fruit d'un projet transfrontalier, réalisé entre les mois de mars et de septembre 2001.
Elle avait été conçue par l'architecte liégeois Daniel Dethier et mise en œuvre par l'entreprise Claude Macors de Hamois-en-Condroz. Cette structure alliait le bois à l’acier et mettait en avant les qualités du bois wallon et, plus précisément, les douglas de la commune de Gedinne.
Les six arbres de trois mètres de circonférence et 45 mètres de haut avaient été abattus en une demi-journée.
L'édifice ressemblait à un sablier avec les six douglas de 32 m.
Une structure métallique de 47,6 m qui comportait deux escaliers en colimaçon de 234 marches était reliée à l'édifice à l'aide de trois passerelles en acier.
Le monument était constitué de trois étages, 15, 30 et 45 mètres.
La tour culminait à 60 m de haut par un mât métallique rouge et blanc métallisé car située dans un couloir aérien.
Le mât de 2,8 t était placé au centre des trois étages. La masse totale était de 82 t.
La tour avait été assemblée à l'horizontale et redressée au cours d'une spectaculaire opération de levage qui avait duré huit heures, le 28 août 2001.
Le coût de la construction de la tour du Millénaire s'est élevé à 625 000 euros (hors taxes).
La Région wallonne avait participé à 50 % du financement des travaux.
L’Union européenne quant à elle participait pour 40 %. Et le solde de 10 % a été pris en charge par le budget communal de Gedinne.
Démontage
Le 7 juillet 2008, la tour du Millénaire a été démontée.
Le bois étant pourri, son accès a tout d'abord été interdit avant qu'on se rende compte de l'ampleur des dégâts.
Le 5 juillet 2012 la tour du Millénaire est reconstruite avec des profilés métalliques et est à nouveau accessible.

En cas de conditions météos défavorables et soudaines : orage, bourrasques de vent, grêle,... l'ascencion de l'édifice est STRICTEMENT INTERDITE

The Millennium Tower or Gedinne Tower is a spectacular lookout tower built in 2001, destroyed in 2008 for safety reasons, rebuilt and finally reopened in July 2012.
The tower is located on the territory of the municipality of Gedinne in Belgium, in the province of Namur, close to the French border.
Description:
Geographic location
The Millennium Tower dominated the Croix-Scaille plateau, a wooded area of 9,000 ha, which was a high point of the Resistance in 1944, and which, with its 503 m altitude, was the highest point in the region. Ardennes, and the sixth "summit" of Belgium.
Over the centuries, four towers had already been erected on this site.
Construction
The construction of this observation tower is the result of a cross-border project, carried out between March and September 2001.
It was designed by the Liège architect Daniel Dethier and implemented by Claude Macors of Hamois-en-Condroz. This structure combined wood with steel and highlighted the qualities of Walloon wood and, more precisely, Douglas fir in the municipality of Gedinne.
The six trees three meters in circumference and 45 meters high were shot down in half a day.
The building looked like an hourglass with the six Douglas fir 32 m.
A 47.6-meter metal structure with two 234-step spiral staircases was connected to the building with three steel bridges.
The monument consisted of three floors, 15, 30 and 45 meters.
The tower was 60 meters high with a metallic red and white metallic mast, located in an air corridor.
The 2.8-ton mast was placed in the center of the three floors. The total mass was 82 t.
The tower was assembled horizontally and straightened during a spectacular lifting operation that lasted eight hours on August 28, 2001.
The cost of building the Millennium Tower was 625,000 euros (excluding taxes).
The Walloon Region had participated in 50% of the financing of the works.
The European Union, for its part, participated for 40%. And the balance of 10% was borne by the municipal budget of Gedinne.
Dismantling
On July 7, 2008, the Millennium Tower was dismantled.
The wood being rotten, its access was first forbidden before we realize the extent of the damage.
On July 5, 2012 the Millennium Tower is rebuilt with metal profiles and is accessible again.
