Geocache Description:

The Grandis - the tallest tree in New South Wales, stands in a secluded picnic area, just north of Bulahdelah, in the western edge of Myall Lakes National Park. This immense tree is a 76.2m tall specimen of a flooded gum (Eucalyptus grandis), and is believed to be 400 years old.

To reach The Grandis, you will need to approach from Stoney Creek Road, which can be accessed from Wootton Way or The Lakes Way traveling either highway direction. Stoney Creek Road is a 2WD (at least in dry conditions presently) travelable gravel road, and has no connection to the Pacific Highway. Make your trip more interesting with a loop trip along Stoney Creek Rd, as it winds through flooded gum forests, and under the Pacific Highway.

To claim a find on this virtual cache:

Visit The Grandis, refer to the information boards located near the parking bay and on the viewing deck, and send a message with answers to the following questions.

1. How high up is the first branch, and what is the trunk diameter at that height?

2. What do the animals dine out on?

3. What species of bird is shown in a photo on the information board closest to the parking bay?

4. Include a photo of The Grandis in your log, with your team or part thereof in the foreground, a bit like our team photo to the left and in the gallery. You do not have to include your face, although a GPS or some sort of geocaching gear, a personal TB, your caching name on a sheet of paper or a big thumbs-up to rival Oliver is needed.... If your photo looks like an online stock image, we will need to delete it.

As this cache didn't exist prior to publication, photos from visits prior to publication aren't valid for logging.

This virtual cache is located within Myall Lakes National Park. Please ensure that NSW NPWS regulations are followed during your visit. Completion of this cache does not require you to leave the formed paths or roads at any time.
