SU VIDA
Parece ser que en 1891 vivió en una farmacia ubicada en esta misma plaza, un loro que sigue siendo el más querido de todos los ciudadanos y uno de los más famoso del mundo
Nada más llegar, no tardó en exteriorizar su carácter alborotador que llevaba dentro. De ahí su nombre "Ravachol", identificándolo así con el revolucionario François Ravachol, ejecutado en la guillotina.
El loro aprendió todo tipo de frases recogidas de los visitantes de la farmacia y del público que atraía por su gracia. Su descaro era tal, que se metía con el clero, incluso recibía con insultos, a algunos personajes ilustres de la ciudad por los que no sentía simpatía.
La vida estuvo marcada por un gran número de anécdotas relacionadas con su facilidad de palabra y especial sarcasmo. Lo más sorprendente era que a su fluidez en el lenguaje iba unida una capacidad de inteligencia que le permitía mantener pequeñas conversaciones. Además identificaba algunas situaciones para aplicar sus frases, casi siempre en gallego, que pronto se hicieron populares y fueron utilizadas en el lenguaje diario de los pontevedreses.
Por sus grandes habilidades para el diálogo Ravachol fue seleccionado para formar parte en una obra teatral en 1900, aunque en la representación hizo gala de su indisciplina y, saliéndose del papel fijado, fue retirado de la escena.
En 1913 se publica en el periódico, su fallecimiento, siendo de gran tristeza para la población. Su cadáver fue embalsamado antes de ser colocado sobre una mesa cubierta de flores en la farmacia, donde se recibe innumerables muestras de cariño y de sentimiento incluso cartas y telegramas.
La muerte de tan ilustre personaje provoca en la sociedad pontevedresa una profunda sensación de pesar que, unida al tiempo carnavalesco, induce a honrarlo tal como se merecía. Tiene un entierro por todo lo alto, con capilla ardiente, Ravachol dentro de una urna, rodeado de cuatro velones. Hasta el día del entierro, previsto para el Miércoles de Ceniza, desfilaron por la sala mortuoria infinidad de personas, incluidas autoridades civiles y militares.
ACTUALIDAD
Símbolo de la ciudad
Loro querido por todos los pontevedreses, que desde 1985 regresa al carnaval. De forma pícara y burlesca llega disfrazado con algún tema de actualidad.
En 2006, el ayuntamiento de Pontevedra quiso rendirle homenaje encargando una escultura de hierro a José Luis Penado que se colocó en el lugar donde se encontraba la botica que fue su hogar.
En el año 2007 se tramita ante el «Consejo Mundial de la Fama» la solicitud para que se declare al Loro Ravachol como “EL LORO MAS FAMOSO DEL MUNDO”. Lo consiguió por méritos más que demostrados
Ya no queda nada de la farmacia, aunque el emplazamiento que ocupó, frente a la iglesia de La Peregrina, es el mismo en el que se encuentra hoy inmortalizado Ravachol. Si pasan por allí, no olviden llevarle un bizcocho que tanto le gusta, pero que no sea mojado en vino, ya que se cree que fue la causa de su muerte.

It seems that in 1891 he lived in a pharmacy located in the same square, a parrot that is still the most loved of all citizens and one of the most famous in the world.
As soon as he arrived, he did not take long to exteriorize his disorderly character inside. Hence his name "Ravachol", thus identifying him with the revolutionary François Ravachol, executed in the guillotine.
The parrot learned all sorts of phrases collected from visitors to the pharmacy and from the public who were attracted by his grace. He was so brazen that he got involved with the clergy and even insulted some illustrious people in the city for whom he had no sympathy.
The life of the sympathetic animal was marked by a large number of anecdotes related to its ease of speech and special sarcasm. The most surprising thing was that his fluency in language was accompanied by a capacity for intelligence that allowed him to have small conversations. He also identified some situations to apply his phrases, almost always in Galician, which soon became popular and were used in the daily language of the people of Pontevedra.
Because of his great abilities for dialogue, Ravachol was selected to take part in a play in 1900, although in the performance he showed his indiscipline and, leaving the fixed paper, he was removed from the scene.
In 1913, his death was published in the newspaper, being of great sadness for the population. His corpse was embalmed before being placed on a table covered with flowers in the pharmacy, where innumerable samples of affection and feeling are received, including letters and telegrams.
The death of such an illustrious personage provokes in Pontevedra society a deep feeling of regret that, together with the carnival time, induces us to honour him as he deserved. He has a burial high above, with a burning chapel, Ravachol inside an urn, surrounded by four candles. Until the burial day, scheduled for Ash Wednesday, countless people, including civil and military authorities, marched through the mortuary hall.

Parrot loved by all the people of Pontevedra, which has been returning to carnival since 1985. In a mischievous and burlesque way he arrives disguised with some current theme.

Nothing remains of the pharmacy, although the site it occupied, in front of the church of La Peregrina, is the same one in which Ravachol is immortalized today.
