Durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial, o pequeno enclave na Ilha da Culatra foi um centro de aviação naval destinado à luta anti-submarinos. Depois, passou para o domínio da Marinha Portuguesa. Hoje, apenas permanecem as memórias e o arame farpado…
Já a Primeira Guerra Mundial se encaminhava para o fim quando os franceses viram, mesmo no centro da ilha da Culatra, a base ideal para um centro de aviação naval. O areal extenso, ainda desabitado, era perfeito para a aterragem dos hidroaviões gauleses que serviam de apoio à luta submarina. É à construção de dois hangares de alvenaria, de frente para a Ria Formosa, que esta povoação deve o seu nome. Se bem que, hoje, os vestígios destas edificações sejam quase inexistentes.
Reza a história que em 1918 amarou nesta estação um hidroavião… descobre-o!

- Nas coordenadas N 36º 59.199 W 007º 51.292 descobrir a placa comemorativa e descrever por palavras tuas o bocado de história descrito na mesma
- No pontão, nas coordenadas originais, tirar uma foto tua fingindo que és um hidroavião (não é necessário reconhecimento facial). Sê criativo!

Devido a não haver barcos com ligação direta para os Hangares, o acesso a esta parte da Ilha faz-se a pé a partir da Ilha do Farol ou Culatra. Deixamos o link para consultar alguns horários de barcos.

When the First World War escalated to the end the French saw, right in the middle of the Culatra Island, the ideal base for a naval aviation center. The extensive uninhabited sands was perfect for the landing of the Gaul’s hydroplanes to support the underwater battles. The name of this location is due to the construction of two hangars in concrete, in front of the lagoon “Ria Formosa”. However, today the remains of this constructions are almost non-existent.
Tells the history that in 1918, a Hydroplane sea landed in this naval station… Find it!
To log this cache you will need:
- At the coordinate N 36º 59.108 W 007º 51.289 find the model of the hydroplane that sea landed in 1918 in this naval station
- At the coordinate N 36º 59.199 W 007º 51.292 find the memorial board and by your own words describe the piece of history mentioned on it
- On the dock, at the original coordinates, take a picture of yourself faking that you are a hydroplane (facial recognition is not necessary). Be creative!

Due to nonexistence of direct boat connection to Hangares the access to this part of the island is by foot, walking from Culatra or Farol. We left the link for the schedules boats.
