Dalslands Kanal färdigställdes under åren 1864-1868.
Arbetet leddes av den kända kanalbyggaren Nils Ericson. Beroende på markförhållandena i Håverud kunde man inte bygga en vanlig slussanläggning där. Bergarterna var lösa, strömmen stark och stupen för branta. Nils Ericson kom då på den geniala idén att istället bygga en akvedukt. Hans son, Werner Ericson blev platschef. Akvedukten är en fritt hängande bro, där vattnet leds i en 33,5 meter lång plåtränna ovanför forsen. Plåtarna är sammanfogade med 33000 nitar. Ännu har inga nitar behövts bytas ut.
Akvedukten tillverkades av det berömda företaget Bergsunds Mekaniska Verkstad i Stockholm. Plåtarna sattes ihop på land och den tunga rännan halades sen på plats över forsen.
Det finns många akvedukter i världen. De flesta byggdes som romerska stenvalvsbroar, andra i en kombination av stenvalvsbroar med överbyggnad av gjutjärnsrännor. Akvedukten i Håverud är helt unik i sitt slag.

The Dalsland Canal was completed between 1864 and 1868. Construction was overseen by the renowned canal builder Nils Ericson.
Due to the soil conditions in Håverud, it was not feasible to build a normal lock system at the site. The rock was too loose, the current too strong and the slope too steep. So Nils Ericson came up with the brilliant idea of building an aqueduct instead. Werner Ericson, his son, was appointed foreman.
The aqueduct consists of a freely suspended bridge, where the water is channelled through a 33.5-metre long sheet metal chute above the river. The sheet metal panels are joined together by 33,000 rivets. So far, none of these have been replaced.
The aqueduct was produced by the renowned firm Bergsunds Mekaniska Verkstad in Stockholm. The plates where put together on land, with the heavy chute hauled into place above the river.
There are many aqueducts around the world. The majority took the form of Roman stone arch bridges, while others combined stone arch bridges with cast iron channel superstructures. The Aqueduct in Håverud truly is one of a kind.
För att logga den här cachen gäller följande två saker:
1. Gå till Waypoint 1. Man går från GZ och utmed kanalen upp mot sjön. Där finns en rund/oval, liten svart skylt på bergsväggen med bokstäver i guld och på skylten står det ett datum. Skicka detta datum till mig i ett meddelande, avslöja inte svaret i din logg.
2. Ta ett foto av dig själv vid de pointade koordinaterna (ansiktet behöver inte vara med) så att man ser akvedukten i bakgrunden och bifoga det kortet med din logg.
Du behöver inte vänta på svar från mig för att logga cachen utan jag hör av mig om något inte stämmer. Felaktiga loggar kan raderas utan förvarning.
To log this cache you need to fulfill two requirements:
1. Go to Waypoint 1. You walk from GZ along the water towards the lake. There is a small, round/oval black sign on the mountain wall with letters in gold. On that sign is a date printed, please send that date to me in a private message and make sure not to reveal that information in your log.
2. Take a photo of yourself at the pointed coordinates (you do not have to show your face) where the aqueduct is visible in the background. Add that photo with your log.
You do not have to wait for my approval to log this cache. I will contact you if something is wrong. Logs that do not meet these requirements might be deleted.
